Drawing Together: Fall 2014

K.I.D.S. fall programs are off to a great start! Our new Teaching Artist Victoria Calabro hosted her second Drawing Together workshop this morning, and families are enjoying working from Kentler's current exhibitions-- "a knot, a tangle, a blemish in the eternal smoothness," by Hedwig Brouckaert, and "A Sense of Place," by Viviane Rombaldi Seppey.

For today's program, Victoria invited families on a scavenger hunt, to find and sketch "living things" among the two exhibitions: a butterfly, brain, flower, sun, and human hair. Then, everyone met in a circle and discussed how living things could be portrayed using maps. Each family was given an array of colored paper and cut maps, and asked to create a collage of a living thing.

Some made self-portraits, some made pictures of plants or animals, and we even had a "space lobster" represented. One very dedicated artist, inspired by Hedwig Brouckaert, incorporated her own hair into her self portrait! Have a look at some of their creations:

A warm welcome to Victoria, and welcome back to all of our Drawing Together families! We can't wait to see what another of our new K.I.D.S. Teaching Artists, Julie Brunner-Cross, will have in store at the P.S. 15 Fall Flea next Saturday! Join us there from 11 - 12:30!
