Fall 2013 After-School Program: RHI

Last Wednesday, middle schoolers from our After-School program with Red Hook Initiative were in the gallery working from the exhibitions by Michael Kukla and David Ambrose. The theme of their fall program, "Draw Small + Draw with Grids" is based on concepts from these shows, and the students were excited to see the work close-up.

Students were asked to draw details from the work, focusing on lines and patterns that were interesting to them. Some chose to emulate the rich, colorful compositions of David Ambrose, while others gravitated towards the tightly-rendered and warped hexagons of Michael Kukla's installation.

In the end, everyone had the opportunity to explore both exhibitions, discuss their differences and similarities, and reinterpret elements from a range of artworks. Here are some of their accomplishments:

Student portfolios are filling up with fantastic work, and we can't wait to see what the next few weeks of this program will bring. Keep up with K.I.D.S. Art Education on blogspot and Facebook to find out!
