Drawing Together: June 15, 2013



Our new exhibition, INSIDE OUT: Selections from the Kentler Flatfiles, opened on Thursday. Curated by Laura Phipps of the Whitney Museum, it features over 50 artworks by 28 artists and represents the wide variety of work housed in the Kentler Flatfiles.

The question: "how can you draw inside out?" was the topic of this morning's family Drawing Together workshop. Kids and parents were asked to draw details from some of the pieces on display, and then incorporate those drawings into their own "inside out" drawings.



Using cups, cut paper, and other materials, they came up with some really interesting interpretations of what it means to create an inside-out drawing-- from expressing their inner thoughts and emotions to imagining what it may look like inside of a sock, computer, or human body.




At the end of the session, we created an impressive display and everyone got to share their artwork! Have a look and some of their amazing projects and ideas:


 



INSIDE OUT: Selections from the Kentler Flatfiles will be on view until July 21st. A Curator's Talk and reception will be held on Saturday, June 22nd from 4 -7 pm. Be sure check it out if you're in Red Hook!
