Drawing Together: April 20, 2013

This morning, something went a little haywire with the electricity in Red Hook. Ten minutes before the start of the program, we had a dark gallery and quite a dilemma! With some quick thinking and random luck, we were able to power up a couple of lamps on one wall. Suddenly we could see a little better and we inadvertently created a kind of laid back, drawing-in-your-apartment feel.

Our awesome participants and Teaching Artist Meghan Keane expertly rolled with the punches and we had a successful workshop!

Right now, Kentler is exhibiting 100 WORKS ON PAPER, our annual Benefit show. The donated works are on view until one week before the Benefit, which will be held on May 18th.

At today's workshop, kids and parents were asked to observe and sketch from the vast array of artwork-- abstract, figurative, colorful, black and white, drawings, prints, photographs-- and choose two of their favorites. Then, using cray pas and big paper, they combined elements of these works to create a new, hybrid drawing.

At the end, everyone made titles for their drawings and went on a museum walk to check out one another's work. Have a look and some of the amazing finished pieces:

Drawing Together family workshops are held at Kentler every 1st and 3rd Saturday. Lessons are designed for ages 4+ with a parent or guardian.
